| Day one: Dear Diary, | |
| This afternoon we will be leaving for Porto Velho. Daddy has already said goodbye and wished me well. He knows my journey could be long and perilous. We (the tribal representatives) are all excited about getting out of the jungle. The Oil Barons have spoken to me many times about the beauty and treasures the "Outside World" have to offer. I have already began to keep a list of the places I'd like to visit. Who knows, maybe I will fall in love and never return. After all, sometimes it feels like the only thing Paterna ever cares about is his silly painting. The only thing his silly paintings will do for him on a cold, rainy night is be fuel for a fire. Someday he will realize he loves me. You wait. | |
| Day three: Dear Diary, | |
| We had a lovely day paddling down the wide Amazon River. I
got to sit next to Paterna the whole way. It was very peaceful
except for the occasional crocodile and that awful pack of piranhas. I
must remember to send a sympathy gift to my friend Bikidini. Her husband
fought bravely, but there was one to many fish. Prior to the attack, I
was daydreaming about the places I wish to experience. The Oil Barons spoke of a
city where all the buildings are on islands. Everyone travels by boat.
It sound much like our village. Maybe Paterna will join me for the
trip. Steady my beating heart! -
Later in the day we arrived at Porto Velho, Brazil. I was sad to leave Paterna, we had such a pleasant conversation. I was certain he would surprise me with a proposal of marriage, but he is such a shy man. I must hurry in order to get to La Paz, Bolivia, where I will begin my journey. I look forward to visiting the land where the sun only shines 1/2 the year and there is no land, only ice. From what I understand ice is very cold. I suppose I will have to see If I can buy some clothes, I only have one suitcase full of the green currency that the oil barons gave my father. Speaking of Dad, I wonder how the Head Poohba is doing today. Surely he is crying because his most beautiful daughter is gone. I must buy him gifts from all over the globe. |

Day four: Dear Diary, |
|
|
I do miss Paterna greatly. I'm sure he misses me too. I bought him a beautiful necklace made of gold. It only cost 411 Brazilian Real. Ickipoo was very sweet to me before we left Brazil. He invited me to dinner at a wonderful restaurant where we each had two all-beef patties, with a special sauce, pickles and onions all sitting elegantly on a sesame seed bun. It was followed by a paper container of a bubbly brown liquid that tickled my nose and caused me to burp quite loudly. He was so proud to pay the 14 Brazilian Real for this luxurious meal. Ickipoo is a very nice person, and sort of cute too. Oh well, I'm sure Paterno would have taken me to dinner if he hadn't had to leave so quickly.

| Day four: Dear Diary, | |
| This
morning I left the beauty of Brazil in a small plane as we flew high
over the Andes Mountains to an airport in a city called Lima in a nearby
country. From there, I was transferred onto a larger plane for the
longest leg of our journey. We were heading south. As far south as
possible on the Earth. While I was told that the shopping possibilities
were small, I was further informed that the frostbite probability was
great. Therefore I make a quick purchase of something called
GoreTex-lined boots. I was assured that they would keep my feet warm. I
had to exchange what was left of my Brazilian Reals for
these 172.5
Peruvian Nuevos Sole boots.
We arrived late this afternoon at our destination. I was told it would be cold, but had no idea it was possible to be this cold. I had to exchange some of my money for Antarctican dollars. While I have very little to compare them to, I can not imagine a more beautiful currency anywhere in the world. This is a very cold land. The only thing that keeps my heart warm are the thoughts of Paterno. Although I must admit that Ickipoo is also becoming a warm thought. He was so sweet. I plan on leaving this place tomorrow. I was tired of looking for a "Pole". I don't know where they came up with this place's name, but I can't find a pole anywhere. I think tomorrow I will have to go someplace where it is warm. |
|
| Day
five: Dear Diary,
Boy was I glad to leave the cold! We are heading North and have just passed a huge island that appears to be mostly desert with a range of mountains to the far eastern side. I've been told that our destination is just to the northwest of this huge island. It is called Thailand. I have been told that there are jungles and more importantly, warmth.
|
|
| Day
seven: Dear Diary,
Once again I have departed on a journey. I could not get the huge island we passed two days ago off my mind. Never before had I seen such a big island. I must explore it. I must know what are beyond the mountains to the East. After purchasing a ticket for only 32,746 Thailand Baht, this morning I left a city called Manila on my way back to the huge island to the south. I was told that we would be arriving at the capital of this monster island early tomorrow morning. I must be certain to get a good nights rest. I have much shopping to do tomorrow. I want to return to the jungle with many gifts. I thinks perhaps I should buy something special for Ickipoo. After all, he was awful cute and kind to me. |
|
| Day
eight: Dear
Diary,
This place is wonderful, the people speak so funny and they have the most unique animals I have ever seen. They have one animal that looks like a large mouse, yet it hops like a rabbit. I'd love to take one home with me. But I'm afraid it would constantly hit its head on the tree branches. I bought some lovely souvenirs of this place. My favorite would have to be a stuffed animal ( I sure hope it didn't hurt) that only cost me 142 Australian Dollars. It sort of looks like a hairy monkey only its what they call a bear. I believe his name is Koala. I'm sure Paterno will like it. Maybe it will keep him warm on a cold jungle night. Speaking of gifts, I found a lovely shell necklace that I'm sure Ickipoo will like. It was in the market for only 995 Australian Dollars, at that price how could I not get it, after all, Ickipoo is quite the catch. I can't wait to have another dinner with him. He was so sweet. Tomorrow I shall begin to plan my trip home. I think I have done exploring enough.

|
| Day
nine: Dear Diary,
The sea spray is once again in my face as we set sail for my last
stop. For the next two days we will be heading East on what is certain
to be a once in a lifetime adventure. We are sailing for a small group
of island off the coast of Equador. I am told that this island is
mostly inhabited by large turtles and iguanas. I'm certain that
somewhere on the island must be a place where I can exchange the
remainder of my money and perhaps purchase a last minute gift or
two. I have also been told that the island is quite warm. This is
because the island lies right next to an imaginary line known as
the equator. |
|
|
Day ten: Dear Diary, Immediately upon our arrival I scooped up the first turtle and the second iguana (the first was quite sickly), tossed the man a 100 US Dollar bill and said "keep the change." I charged to the nearest airport and am now on my last leg of my journey. The reason for my sudden departure is that I can bear the pain no longer. My separation from Ickipoo is more than anyone should have to endure. But before I return to his strong arms, I must go to the land of Pablo Picasso. My life with Ickipoo will not be complete until I bathe myself in the life and art of this incredible artist. Besides that, I have heard the fountains are beautiful and the souvenirs are fabulous. I am told that the capital city of Spain is a magnificent spot to visit. While I am there I have many things to do, but I must hurry, for I know not how much more longing my heart can bear, not to mention that my suitcase of money is beginning to get quite low. This plane ride to Spain is quite expensive and its seems odd that I was required to pay the pilot 1,416 Euro Dollars (Spanish).
Day Eleven: Dear Diary, What a quick trip! Lucky for me I was able to find a seaplane which will allow us to land right at my destination (the mouth of the Amazon River). There, I have been assured, we can catch up with a boat that will be heading up the Amazon tomorrow evening. Just think, by this time tomorrow I will back home and with any luck, in the arms of Ickipoo.
|
|
| Day
twelve: Dear Diary,
My heart is racing as the excitement grows as we wing closer and closer to my beloved jungle. I have but one last payment to make. In my haste to leave Spain I forgot to pay the airline. In order to assure that I was not tossed from the plane for non-payment, my pilot ( a Brazilian chap) has ensured me that he would be more than happy to take the payment. It will only cost me 1,878 Brazilian Real for my flight. What a small price to pay for returning to all I love. I can already see the small green boat on the horizon. Its smoke stack belching as it waits for us to land so we may finish this long journey. I sure do hope Ickipoo gets back soon! I miss him so.
